2011-06-27 Wyoming Capitol

We departed Rock Springs KOA before 7:30 this morning, traveling I-80. Another lovely sunny day. Saw many Antelope in the hills.
Our first stop was in Rawlins. Dad Zastrow's Journal mentions stopping here to see the old prison. It's still there - as a museum. Interesting place. The kids were fascinated with the model gallows.
We arrived at the Cheyenne KOA around noon. It's a gravel lot, like the last one, but as a few trees. Like most KOAs, it's
right off the highway, with railroad tracks near by. But also a swimming pool for the kids.
Had no trouble finding the capital. It's smaller than some that we've seen, but like Iowa's capital, it has a gold leaf covered dome. There was no security check, and the very friendly Head of the State Patrol took a picture of our group for us. We wandered around the capitol, then walked to the State History Museum where we spent more time looking at the exhibits while the kids played dress up in the Living History Room.
A good day for all of us.
