2012-2-24 Savannah

Feb 24th - Walking tour of Savannah, GA

We spent several hours on a walking tour of old town Savannah.
Our guide was a wonderfully knowledgeable guy... with glaucoma. Good thing he knew his way around the area very well because he sure couldn't see where he was going. But he was full of information and fun to listen to. Even Buffy enjoyed the walk. We finished just as the sky darkened and thunder rumbled. By the time we got back to the truck rain was pouring down.

2012-2-23 Tybee Island

Rivers End RV Park - Tybee Island, GA

Traveled to Savannah, GA yesterday and managed to get through the city with the RV - even though one of the trolleys was blocking most of two lanes of traffic in down town. Our excitement for the day! The beach is in easy walking distance - only drawback... Buffy couldn't be on the beach. We visited Fort Pulaski in the afternoon and Buffy enjoyed that trip. Weather has been great!

2012-Feb 17-19 Okefenokee Swamp

Stephan C. Foster S.P. in Okefenokee Swamp, GA

had thunder/lightning and lots of rain, but not enough to
fill the ponds and streams in the swamp. Signs of many forest fires
in the pines.

Friday – Sunday End of trip at the cabin

Arrived at the cabin before noon Friday. With the RV waiting in the road, Jim began cutting trees. The driveway was not wide enough to get the RV turned and into the drive. After cutting a tree, some brush, and lowering some stumps, Jim moved the RV into the drive. After cutting some low hanging limbs, he finally was able to move through and back the RV into an open area. We spent the rest of the day cutting more trees – white and jack pines – to open the area for a river view.

Super was a pizza we got in Rhinelander after we found a gas-run pruning saw that Jim could use to get at the higher branches. Saturday he was able to get more clearing done. We now have a nice spot to put the RV for the summers.

Rain moved in late on Saturday and continued during the night and Sunday morning. We’ll save the rest of the tree-trimming for another day. Arrived home in the early afternoon.

Wonderful trip and good to be home!
